On Sunday, 1 May 2016, men in two vehicles opened fire and detonated a suicide bomb on a police station in Gaziantep, Turkey. The attack killed 2 police officers and injured another 19 police officers and 4 civilians. The incident was 1 of 3 attacks on security forces on Sunday. It was also 1 of many armed conflicts that Turkey has been experiencing against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, or also known as ISIS) and Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK).
The men used one vehicle to shoot at police officers who were guarding the station and the other vehicle to commit the suicide bombing. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack, but security forces have arrested the father of a suspect who has a history with ISIL. The father has been detained for questioning and DNA testing.
In general, over the past months, security forces of Turkey have performed various raids on the people who are suspected of having association with ISIL. There has yet to be a permanent solution to the armed conflicts in Turkey.
