Israeli forces have arrested 19 Palestinians in raids across the occupied West Bank.

According to the Israeli military, Israeli forces have detained 19 Palestinians for “suspected involvement in terrorist activities”. The military has provided not further explanation. About 6,400 Palestinians are currently forced to remain in Israeli prisons. This number includes dozens of women and around 300 minors. Of these, a spokesperson stated, 10 have remained in detention for more than 30 years.

Demonstrations have erupted in the Palestinian territories in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision on December 6 to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The Israeli army often carries out extensive arrest campaigns across the occupied West Bank to search for “wanted” Palestinians. About 450 Palestinian prisoners have been places in “administrative detention” without trial or charge. Included in this figure are twelve Palestinian lawmakers, members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
