A native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kalenge relocated various times in the 1990’s throughout his home nation and Africa, before finally settling in Italy in 2006, where he would later obtain his masters degree in Pavia. Kalenge spoke about his experiences and gave insight on the issues he faced escaping the conflicts in Eastern Congo, in search of a more secure life. During the presentation of the book, writer Andrea Comincini monitored the event, while one of the founders of the research center L'Osservatorio, Corrado Quinto, joined in on the talks via skype from New York. A presentation of the historic and humanitarian context of Congo helped to contextualize Kalenge’s testimony. The audience showed interest in L’Osservatorio’s work overall and the upcoming research papers on memory and reparation in DRC.
